For Incognito Tabs on Android, Google Chrome Now Has a “Fingerprint Lock”

After iOS, the tech behemoth Google has handed out the fingerprint lock for Chrome users who use Android.

Google, a California-based company, is surely improving its privacy policies to give users a better sense of security and personalization across all of its services. Google just announced that users can now lock their incognito session when they close Chrome on Android.

With this announcement, the technology company taking to a blogpost highlighted that the users would now be able to use fingerprint scanners and biometric authentication to lock and unlock the incognito tabs on the Google Chrome browser

The user only needs to go to Chrome settings, select Privacy and Security, and check “Lock incognito tabs when you close Chrome” to enable the security function.

After doing this, the device’s owner would be the only person with access to the incognito mode. Chrome’s incognito tab can be unlocked using the device owner’s fingerprint. Additionally, the user will be required to provide a PIN or pattern as part of the verification procedure before they may enable or disable.

Notably, Google already gave iOS access to the same feature in 2021 for iPhone customers’ protection.

The tech behemoth also disclosed that “Safety Check” will now alert users if it comes across compromised passwords or potentially dangerous extensions.

The company stated: “To deepen our commitment to your online safety, we’re expanding Safety Check by rolling out more individualised recommendations and reminders about what you’ve previously shared with websites, as well as finding those controls in one place to revoke permissions and protect your privacy.”

Google has provided five recommendations for establishing a secure browsing environment in advance of Data Privacy Day, which is observed on January 28.
