Golden Globes: RRR wins Best Original Song but loses in the category of Best Non-English Language Film
New Delhi: RRR attended the Golden Globes, saw, and won. The popular film Naatu Naatu by SS Rajamouli received nominations in two categories, including Best Original Song. The 1985 prize for Best Foreign Language Film went to Argentina, not it. Other titles nominated in this category include Decision to Leave, Close, and All Quiet on the Western Front (all from Germany) (South Korea).
There will be members of the RRR cast present, including the movie’s director SS Rajamouli, Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan (who will be accompanied at the Golden Globes by wife Upasana Kamineni). Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju, two freedom fighters, are portrayed by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in the historical drama, which is set in British-occupied India in the 1920s. The ensemble also includes Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris from the UK in addition to Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn.
In recognition of his work on RRR, which brought in more than 1,200 crores globally, Rajamouli won the Best Director award at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. In addition, RRR has nominated itself for a number of Oscar categories and expects to be nominated in at least one, if not more, of them.
Jerrod Carmichael, a comedian, is hosting the Golden Globes in Los Angeles. After undergoing internal adjustments in response to criticisms over its purportedly sexist and racist voting practices, the awards have returned to Hollywood’s mainstream. Last year, several of Hollywood’s biggest stars abstained from the celebration, including Tom Cruise, who returned his three Golden Globes, and NBC, which broadcasts the Golden Globes.
